The photos and the shématics need no comment.
This patch was designed to replace the helix feed which illuminates the parabola offset use at the QRA. The first tests seemed promising, but after many tests and trial on the beacon of the sat, there seems to be no notable difference between these 2 sources. The patch appears less sensitive to the QSB on the weak signals and the only advantage in my opinion lies in the mechanical realization easier than the helix.
The aperture of a patch is definitely higher than that of the helix thus overilluminating the parabola offset to the detriment of the expected output. On the other hand it is better adapted to work with a classic dish i.e. with its source at the center.
Since l did not have this type of dish on hand... I did not carry out a test.
